LIked it More Than I Expected submitted by Sara W on June 21, 2011, 9:15pm My first thriller by a best selling author! I was in a real fiction rut, not finding anything I liked, so I thought I'd take someone's recommendation and try out Linda Fairstein. The person who recommended this to me suggested this book because of the involvement of rare books and the behind-the-scenes action at the New York Public Library. And ultimately, that's what made me enjoy the book.

I had to get past the casually tossed out descriptions of the tough-as-nails-but-smart-with-a-heart Alex Cooper and her fabulous French lover (who cooks, of course) but once I did, I was fine with the story. Not the best mystery I've ever read and I'm certainly not invested in the characters (although no one touches a friend's hair as often as Alex touches Mike's. Something is afoot.) but the history used as a backdrop for the action was great. I'll probably try another one - and put Fairstein on my list of reliable light reading authors for my next fiction rut.
