Where To Find It
Call number: Fiction / Verghese, A.
Available Copies: Downtown 2nd Floor, Traverwood Adult
This book is a worthwhile read. Verghese paints a picture with his words. I feel like I'm experiencing the culture of northern Africa while learning part of my own history from their point of view. Enlightening.
I couldn't put this book down. I loved all the characters, well, except for two, but the others were very likable! I also learned about Ethiopian political history a little. Abraham Verghese is an excellent writer and included just enough medical description so that I understood what was happening but not so much that it lost me. I learned a lot about Africa in this book too. My book club just read it and it got an overall score of 9.5 out of 10!
I found this book to be pretty average. It's a good, unique story, but too long and the characters are a little annoying... Maybe it's just that too much hype was built up and my expectations were too high.
