Charming and Timeless submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:44pm This is a charming Christmas story with an air of timelessness to it, showing its age mostly in the relatively large proportion of text to pictures. Despite following a familiar outline, the story has some unique elements that will still entertain and charm readers who have read a lot of Christmas stories; Father Christmas himself makes an appearance in an unusual fashion, and the magic of Christmas comes through in a different way than in a lot of similar tales. While some of the Babar stories do have unfortunate implications regarding colonialism, this particular volume did not seem to me to be particularly problematic and I think it holds up well as a standalone Christmas story that does not require prior knowledge of the characters or their society.
