Sonny is a gifted Southern Pentecostal preacher loved by his community in Texas. When Sonny loses control and commits a crime of passion, he is forced to run from the law. The BEST Duvall movie ever submitted by Martha Ratliff on August 9, 2010, 3:11pm This is a perfect movie. I have seen it a number of times. It showcases Robert Duvall's considerable talents (Farrah Fawcett's, too), and presents an achingly accurate picture of life in the rural south. The view of race relations is one rarely seen in the movies, and is one not well understood in the north. The presentation of the way life and religion in this region are inextricably woven together is exactly right, too. I believe this is Duvall's own favorite movie of all the ones he's been in. Where did those silly 2-and-a-half stars come from?

Tried again, made it watchable. submitted by Tassos on November 23, 2022, 8:37pm DVD was all wrong, damned poor quality and the wrong aspect ratio, I changed it to zoom to correct the distortion but it is not 100% still.

Two days later, I figured what was wrong with the dvd, and seeing it with simple zoom so it fills the screen without distortion, and I can see it decently.

Still, thanks to Duvall, who is a really good actor (or was, he is alive but too old now), the movie is good and refereshingly different from the god-awful CRAP coming out of Hollywood today, with NO inspiration, making B-movies with dumb superheroes and cartoons.
