Astonding submitted by sarai koster-mockeridge on July 25, 2015, 2:40pm This book opens with an act of unmistakable cruelty, and only grows from there. I found this to be a difficult book to read, but breathtaking in it's ruthless horror.

Brutally Beautiful submitted by Sara W on August 21, 2015, 9:17am There is nothing gentle about Ron Rash's "Serena" - the landscape and the characters are equally harsh and unforgiving. Pemberton is a lumber man, ambitious and expanding his business, when he meets Serena. She's captivating in her forward and plain-spoken manner. They marry quickly and return to his lumber camp, where Serena is as hands-on as she is forceful. She more than matches Pemberton is ambition, and her drive and demands propel the story forward.

However, the story takes a turn when there is an accident that sends Serena's protectiveness and fury into overdrive. This book has moments of terrifying suspense and well-drawn, if totally inscrutable, characters. It's not an easy read, but it is a rewarding ride.

Wow submitted by KOH on August 13, 2017, 10:40am I thought this was an excellent book. Character development and the way the plot unfolded were both just wonderful.
