In a near future. Detroit has slowly become the center of criminal activity when a gang who likes to kill cops goes on the rise. Omni Consumer Products eventually seizes control of local law enforcement. Just assigned to the Metro West Precinct is Officer Alex Murphy. Alex is massacred by the gang, as his partner Anne Lewis is barely able to do nothing. At the same time, a young visionary executive, Bob Morton, seizes his chance when the ED-209 law enforcement droid shows multiple problems as the perfect cop. The near death Murphy is used as the subject of a new droid. With his memories erased, he is resurrected as RoboCop, the future of law enforcement. As he sweeps away crime, he eventually becomes involved with the Cop Killing Gang, and Anne Lewis herself. All of this triggers his dormant memories of his past life and he searches for who he really is. Along the way, he uncovers a conspiracy going deep in OCP.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A strange little cult favorite submitted by cherylo on July 26, 2011, 7:11pm Interesting and strange cult classic, in the same vein as Max Headroom and the generally paranoid, bleak 80s cyberpunk ethos. RoboCop of the title is not really an android: he's a cyborg, albeit one created from a dead (or nearly dead) subject.

This is the original 1987 movie submitted by SurfGrape on July 16, 2014, 8:12am Although the catalog says it's 2007, that was simply when the blu-ray was released. This is the original 1987 movie.
Robocop is about a cyborg cop in near-future Detroit. He's up against drug dealers, corrupt politicians, and the corporation who made him--and might just destroy him. There are themes of rebirth (of the city as well as the man), what it means to be human, and how fame is fleeting in a media-saturated world. The movie is ultra-violent, as befits a crime-ridden future Detroit.

Smart ideas submitted by brooksza on August 15, 2022, 11:21am This is more than an action movie. It has poignant social commentary that aged great. The climax is excellent. Love that it's in Detroit!
