Greek Myth Meets NASA Images
submitted by Sara W on June 20, 2011, 10:01pm
This short fable comes packaged as a tall board book, with the text arranged around the full-page, color illustrations. The focus on the pictures is with good reason: they are breath-taking photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, provided by NASA.
The classic Greek myth about the eager child whose curiosity gets the better of him with tragic results is nicely adapted to Greene's futuristic setting of a pioneering interstellar spaceship.
The re-imagined myth against the dramatic backdrop of cosmic images is a clever cautionary tale against being tempted by the unreal beauty and glory of exploring the unknown.
