COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fascinating Study of Unsolved Crimes submitted by Sara W on June 21, 2011, 3:04am Part of what is fascinating about Douglas Preston's "The Monster of Florence" is how swept up in the investigation he and his co-author, Mario Spezi, become. This brought home the reality of the unsolved string of murders and the sinking feeling that the killer will never be brought to justice.

The back story surrounding some of the suspects is tangled and suspicious and the missteps and obstinacy of the Italian police were frustrating and frightening. It's an engrossing story told very skillfully.

The only catch readers should be aware of is that it is an ongoing case in which the authors played a part. There is a lot of build-up and those going in hoping for a clear resolution may be disappointed.

quick read submitted by airgood on June 15, 2015, 4:09pm Very interesting look at the Italian judicial system and the investigation process. It's amazing to see the process that leads to the author being wrapped up in the investigation and suspected of murder. Some parts of it are a bit graphic, but most of the book focuses on the process rather than the murders.

good book writing submitted by Jackie77 on August 14, 2015, 11:44am Good book that follows the italian law and procedures. Numerous killings going back decades seem to be tied to one person or family. With the way their justice system works it seems the killer (s) will never be caught.
