A Splendid Cookbook

This is a cookbook, but I read it straight through from cover to cover, and really enjoyed it. I don't think many cookbooks would be interesting to read that way, but this one was.
Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Sally Swift, from the Public Radio show "The Splendid Table," have written this cookbook. It is a glorious intersection between food that is fancy and flavorful and food that is quick to prepare. They realize that modern cooks often have limited time in the kitchen and want to get food on the table fast -- but at the same time these recipes use some really brilliant cooking techniques to make the food much more interesting and flavorful than typical quick-foods.
I haven't cooked anything from it yet, but the recipes look well-thought-out and well tested. Many recipes offer several variations that are quite different from each other.
Anyway, after renewing this cookbook way too many times, I finally bought myself a copy -- I liked it that much.
