Great Sequel! submitted by drewy234432 on August 8, 2011, 8:10am The Penderwicks are back home and ready for another adventure! but when aunt claire comes to visit, she brings bad news- Mr. Penderwick must start dating again. terrified at the aspect of having a stepmother, the penderwicks create the save-daddy-plan to try and save themselves from having another mother. A fabulous sequel just as charming as the first, the penderwicks on gardam street is a must read.

During the book the Penderwick girls are astonished to learn that their deceased mother wanted their father to eventually date again. In fear of having a stepmother, the girls scheme to give their father horrible dates so that he will never date again.

Book Review: The Penderwicks on Gardam Street submitted by yanxia cao on July 20, 2020, 10:52am The Penderwicks’ sisters have just gotten back from their relaxing summer vacation at Arundel. Now, they have to face bigger issues, like their Aunt Claire’s new idea. Aunt Claire is convinced that Mr. Penderwick is lonely, and needs to have interactions with people on a daily basis other than his daughters and her, so she sets up blind dates for Mr. Penderwick to go on. The girls, convinced that they don’t need an evil step-mother, come up with the “Save Daddy-Plan”, a plan that can be guaranteed to make dates as horrendous as possible, to make sure that Mr. Penderwick won’t ever find someone to become their step-mother. People that hate Latin, people who talk during orchestra performances, etc.
Rosalind has issues managing her feelings for one particular boy who has been her neighbor from the beginning of time. Skye has a dreadful assignment to write a poem, and Jane has to write a science paper. They decide to switch homework assignments, but your actions have consequences, and they both must suffer from the consequences, or tell the truth.
Batty finally has someone new to play with, the next-door neighbor, Ben. They usually play imaginary games, but this time, they encounter a mysterious person Batty likes to call, “Bug Man”. No one believes her, but they will soon regret that choice.
I give this book a 5 out of 10 stars because I feel like this book is so unrealistic, yet it is a realistic fiction book. I feel like everything is just so perfect, and the “plot twist” to me wasn’t even a plot twist at all. *SPOILER ALERT* It was really obvious to me from the beginning that Iantha was going to be the one because she got so close to the girls and the book mentioned her a lot compared to the other women. There was also talk about other characters that I felt were like a last-minute character and I felt like it was poor character development.
Rosalind seemed to always have the same old issues in both books which were very annoying to me. I would've liked it much more if she had other issues than boy issues. The issue with Jane and Skye was such a common issue, that I just knew from the beginning of the book that Skye or Jane would fess up to their dad, their actions are just so predictable.
I was told several times by several people that the second book was better than the first, but I feel like the second book was worse. I could tell that the author was trying to put a better plot twist than the first book’s plot twist, but it was so common, bland, and predictable, that it turned cringy. The only un-predictable plot twist in this book was the fact that Bug Man was trying to steal Iantha’s computer for her research. That one really surprised me.
I would recommend this book to anyone who only wants to read books about people’s lives that are just so perfect and have literally no issues. I would definitely not recommend this book to myself, because sometimes I just wanted to throw this book across the room.

Great Sequel submitted by kathscot on July 17, 2021, 12:02pm It was fun to see the sisters at home, after the first book where they are on vacation. And the adventures surrounding Mr. Pen dating are hilarious.
