Creepy and Terrible submitted by Maria Maguire on July 6, 2018, 2:55pm I found this book so terrible I was turned off Gabriel Garcia Marquez for ages, and it wasn't until I was forced to read a short story of his in my Spanish class that I finally accepted not all his work was awful. But this one is. Even teh magical realism he's know for is barely present in this book. The premise of the story is that the main character, Florentino falls in love with Fermina when he's younger, she kinda likes him but ends up married to a rich doctor.

We are then privvy to his hundreds of affairs, including with a kid (I don't even want to get into the awful details), but we're told that he's still saving himself for Fermina. He also obsesses over her for the 50 years she's married and when her husband dies basically harasses her until she agrees to see him. The whole thing reeks of rape culture.
