The Platonic Ideal of This Type of Country submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2020, 1:00am Alan Jackson is pretty much the Platonic ideal of a certain type of country singer, and this album bears that out perfectly. The music is a modern take on classic country, with plenty of banjo and slide guitar sprinkled in for flavor, with the expected mix of romps and ballads. Jackson sings about love, small towns, the South, and Jesus and is an interesting counterpoint to country music’s current direction. This album doesn’t offer a lot of surprises, but it does deliver exactly what you’d expect, and that’s good enough.
