Boy Who Dared
This book opens on a boy's execution day and the rest of the story is told in flashbacks. It makes for a very gripping story about living in Germany during World War II. The book is based partially off of true events as one boy gets sucked in, and then tries to rebel against the propaganda of the Hitler youth movement. He gets his friends to listen to an illegal short wave radio and secretly distributes newsletters to let people know what’s really going on in the war (which he learns from the radio). The fact that you know he gets caught only adds to the very realistic danger of that time, and the courage it takes to do what’s right.
