Whoa. What? submitted by Sara W on July 1, 2011, 2:57pm This book is focused on John Brinkley, a quack doctor who made his millions convincing men and women alike that their ailments would be cured with a simple transplant of goat glands.

Whoa. What?

Yep. Goat glands. That's all it takes. Brinkley builds a clinic specializing in insertion of goat glands in place of male testicles and female ovaries. Doesn't that sound SENSIBLE?

As bizarre as the story is, it's somehow fascinating to hear it all unfold. Brinkley is unbelievably successful, which is bizarre in itself.

Medical history, fascinating submitted by Jannana37 on July 11, 2015, 10:38am For anyone who likes American history, this is a great read.
People's gullibility, and their hope for a cure for whatever ails them, gave the good doctor a platform for his very bizarre treatments, which were the source for the millions he made.
And as a bonus, I especially liked learning about the advent of high-wattage radio stations - and found out how Wolfman Jack got his start.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes Erik Larson's books.
