This volume contains three novels about Miles Vorkosigan: "Komarr," "A Civil Campaign" and "Winterfair Gifts." They demonstrate the relationship between Miles and Ekaterin Vorsoisson. Both are members of their planets' upper class. Miles, in fact, is a lord, future count, and one of the emperor's heirs. Miles must, at some point, marry and have children, as he is the heir of his family's title.
The difficulty for Miles is that he lives in a society that is very prejudiced against people with disabilities. Miles has had brittle bones since an accident before his birth, so his disability is not genetic, but most people mistakenly believe it is.
