A New Spin on the Classic Canon submitted by Meginator on June 25, 2020, 4:16pm One of the great things about holiday music is that it is so culturally familiar that musicians have a lot of latitude to make the songs their own, and the Brian Setzer Orchestra certainly does so throughout this album. Each of the covers is specially tailored to their updated big-band vibe, and the originals blend in seamlessly with the classics. The standout track here is “Gettin’ in the Mood (for Christmas)”, which blends Glenn Miller’s iconic hit with new material with surprisingly slick results. Overall, this album is a nice change of pace for the holiday season, arranged and executed with excellent skill.
