I Can't Believe It's Just B-Sides submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2019, 11:58pm The genius of Gorillaz is that you never quite know what you’re going to get from the albums; this one consists primarily of relatively laid-back electronic tracks with a ton of instrumental depth to them. The production is incredibly detailed and each track convincingly finds its own unique balance. The quality here is unbelievably high, so much so that it’s difficult to remember that these are b-sides and unreleased tracks; Damon Albarn is just that good. The remixes on disc 2 bring good energy to the original tracks, but the repetition makes them difficult to listen to in one go; with three versions each of “Dare” and “Kids with Guns”, the experience grows old quickly, which does a disservice both to the original tracks and to the remixing producers’ excellent work. Though this album is musically impressive and stands well on its own (and exceptionally so for a b-side/remix album), it’s best with some preexisting familiarity with previous Gorillaz releases.
