On the Ice submitted by irenzero on May 23, 2008, 1:52pm This was a great quick read about an ill fated Zeppelin (and I am talking Airship here, not a band) trip to the North Pole. The story is engaging and quick, and the art work simple but evocative of the era.

For some reason, this didn't appeal to me. I couldn't keep track of the passage of time. I kind of cared about the stranded crew but couldn't always keep them straight; I didn't really care about HR at all and since he didn't seem to be reporting back to his paper, it wasn't clear why he was there.
I did like one section where the top 2/3rds (or so) of the pages showed the unfolding adventures of the stranded crew, while the bottom row showed the voyage of HR to the Arctic. But it wasn't clear to me: was this device implying parallel time scales?
I wished I had someone around who could read Cyrillic to translate the Russian for me, but that wasn't central to the plot so was just a personal reaction.
