I feel like this could be an interesting book: I knew little to nothing about the United Fruit Company, and only the most superficial understanding of the history of Central America and its "banana republics." It's a fascinating topic, really. Unfortunately, the author could not present it in a way that made it easy to understand, much less enjoyable. While I don't need a strict chronology, the author jumped around a little too much, making it difficult to follow. Chapters were awkwardly constructed; more than once I had to double-check to make sure I hadn't accidentally skipped a page. I have no doubt that the author is an expert on this long and complicated history, but he is certainly not a good writer. I had to force myself to finish.

Great info on an interesting subject.
