Plagiarizes Weird Al submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 8:57pm As expected, this album is full of cute, quick songs that feature lyrics about various foods. Though it is tied to Ratatouille, most of the tracks don’t really feature French food or customs, and the track list is crafted to have a broader appeal, making the tie-in a bit confusing. The musical style varies somewhat but largely centers on swing revival (with one ode to early swing music) and country-inspired folk storytelling. For an album obviously aimed at younger audiences, this offers plenty of musical variation to entertain (if not enthrall) everyone else as well, and the lyrics are funny enough; it’s not at all bad for what it is and should have broad apeal. I was somewhat put off by this version of “Taco Grande”, a Weird Al Yankovic parody from the early 1990s that is completely uncredited in the liner notes; Al did it better and deserves full credit for his lyrics, which appear here word-for-word.
