THE RACE, a timely and provocative book by Richard North Patterson submitted by jheady on November 13, 2007, 5:03pm This novel is timely and thought provoking. A reader cannot help but cheer for the honest Presidential candidate. The author wrote this in 2007 with the 2008 election in mind. The story is about 3 major Republican candidates for President and their paths to the convention where no one has a majority. The dirty behind the scenes deals, actual lies meant to eliminate others, and the controversies are real and well researched. This author obviously wants us to think about causes of importance judging from his recent novels. The reader will probably be surprised by the ending, but there is a nice satisfaction also. Revealing the plot and the characters would spoil the story, but trust me this novel is worth every minute of reading. Now, we need to heed the not so subtle warning to clean up the mess before our real problems are too difficult to solve.
