China ancient and modern on the move circa 2006 submitted by vk on March 19, 2011, 4:34pm A documentary about daily life in China circa 2006 as seen through the eyes of a migrant worker washing windows in Shanghai, a young gymnast aspiring for the 2008 Olympics, a farmer toiling in old rice terraces after privatization, a young martial artist tutored in an ancient Buddhist monastery, a policewoman in Gansu province apprehending drug traders and wondering about Mr. Right, a Mongolian wondering what is going to happen to their horse-centric way of living, and others. My favorite sequence is juxtaposition and contrast of the Great Wall flyover, gorgeously captured in HD, to the neon night skyline of Shanghai and the modern construction therein. Great show about a very complex and huge country.
