Required Reading submitted by briebananafana on July 11, 2017, 1:08pm Alex Haley's amazingly written anthology of the life of a young African man. A classic. Beautiful. A must read for everyone.

Still holds up in 2021 submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 15, 2021, 10:12pm Published in 1976, this book absolutely stands up to the test of time. It is astonishingly powerful, fantastically researched, and so fully readable that the 700 pages flew by and I constantly wanted to be picking it back up. This is my second read of _Roots_ (the first many decades ago), and I know a lot more about the history of Black Americans now than I did then. This book still holds up. It works as education, as story, and as compelling emotional connection to human experience. Could not recommend more highly.
