an original! submitted by lekendrick on October 13, 2010, 12:10pm such an obvious idea can't believe hadn't been done, before it's very sappy & sentimental! But, as family fare doesn't get much better, leaving the impression good for dreaming not exactly sugar plum ferries, but close must be said! Good for calm, and impression household excitement!

So fun! submitted by crazypockets on July 24, 2013, 12:01pm I agree with lekendrick...how has this not been done before? What kid hasn't imagined what it would be like to be in a museum overnight, and also, what it would be like if the exhibits came to life? I loved this for that nostalgic glimpse back into childhood where it seemed like things like this really could be possible. There are some nice historical elements to it, too, and it's just a lot of fun.

Movie night submitted by amd12 on August 28, 2018, 2:11am Great movie to watch with kids.

A cool concept, but very racist submitted by nemiller on August 9, 2019, 8:49am I was hoping that this film would be a fun, family-friendly movie. The concept is great - a museum full of people, and even some animals, that come to life when no one is around!

Unfortunately, the film is very racist.

For example, with the exception of one character (who speaks English because he was on display at Oxford), character of color from the museum is portrayed as speaking total gibberish. Ben Stiller's character even speaks total gibberish to Atilla the Hun and his soldiers, and they understand him, as though they don't speak a real language!

There are more examples of racist tropes, often played for laughs, Manifest Destiny goes unquestioned, and the movie barely has any women with speaking roles (all three of them exist mainly as love interests to men).

I am not surprised to find all this in a movie without a diverse cast and crew, made in 2006. But it is 2019 now, so we can choose better films to watch.
