Follow the Dixie chicks, the top selling female band of all-time, through the now infamous anti-Bush comment made by the groups lead singer Natalie Maines in 2003. Follow the lives and careers of the Dixie Chicks over a period of three years during which they were under political attack and received death threats, while continuing to live their lives, have children, and make country music. At a time when the United States is fighting for democracy and freedom in another country, it raises questions about our own right to freedom of speech and the negative consequences it sometimes has.

Great Documentary submitted by Meginator on July 20, 2011, 9:53pm I thought this was a really well-executed documentary, following the Dixie Chicks hot on the heels of lead singer Natalie's infamous remark that the band was ashamed President Bush was from Texas. While the documentary doesn't directly engage any of the freedom of speech issues it raises, I still found it an insightful look into the minds of the band as they dealt with the backlash, both immediately and a few years later when recording their next album. This is an emotional, not an intellectual, documentary, and it serves its purpose quite well, shifting between two timelines effortlessly and weaving a story without being excessively heavy-handed or even offering any overt narration. This is a good documentary for anyone who remembers the controversy, and especially for fans of the band.
