Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 28, 2013, 10:23pm Part of Philippa Gregory's series on the Tudor royal family, "The Boleyn Inheritance" is about two of Henry VIII's queens: Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard (a relative of the Boleyn's, hence the name). Like many of her historical novels, "The Boleyn Inheritance" is based on extensive research, but does include as truth what was widespread but never proven rumor, such as Katherine Howard's extramarital affairs.

I highly recommend the novel as it brings history to life.
Anne was from a Protestant German family. Gregory depicts her as trying to please her family and being desperately unhappy in her marriage. By contrast, in the novel, Katherine Howard is a conniving social climber, although her family helps her to the thrown as it advances their own interests, but abandons her as soon as Henry's eye wanders.
