Must Read about Sudan’s lost Boys
submitted by halliejewell on August 26, 2018, 8:29pm
This is the story of Valentino Achak Deng, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. With the help of novelist Dave Eggers, he tells his story in a moving, gripping way. Achak and Eggers met through the Lost Boys Foundation. They decided to include historical and political background and to expand on Achak's experiences, turning into a sort of autobiographical novel. This is a must read!
Humbling ... Will Make You Appreciate Life submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 19, 2020, 10:35pm This book tracks the life of Sudanese refugee Valentino Achak Deng from adolescence. His village is ravaged by the murahaleen, and as he walks through Sudan, Ethiopia, and Kenya, suffering and witnessing unimaginable horrors and losses. Accounts of his days in Africa are scattered with stories of his ensuing struggles in America as a member of the Lost Boys of Sudan program.
So good submitted by EJZ on June 13, 2021, 6:11pm So sad and yet so engrossing. Mr Deng survives so much just to come to America, where usually you would see how much better his life becomes. Unfortunately life is rarely like a fairy tale.
A Must Read submitted by ktscott on July 18, 2021, 6:39pm I have recently suggested my 14 year old read this book-- I am not sure it won't be too much for me, but for anyone who has not travelled or realized the horror and loss countless people across the world experience, this book is a must read. It's not easy or light, but I think it's necessary.
