COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Good Story, Excellent Narrators submitted by Sara W on June 21, 2011, 12:52am This book accomplished a brooding tone without the action dragging for a moment and emphasized the power of story beautifully with flashbacks, memories and of course, storytelling. It gracefully calls into question the meaning of family and identity with ingenious plot twists that will surprise and satisfy any reader.

The narrator is a reader herself, a quite avid and understanding reader. So as the book draws to a close, she makes a point of enumerating the loose ends that we might like tied up and neatly provides answers. It's tremendously kind to readers both as a story and as an homage.

The audiobook of this title engages two readers, one for Margaret, the narrator, and another for Vida Winter, the mysterious and famous author whose re-telling of her life story makes up much of the novel. These two voices do a spectacular job of leading the reader into the eras and experiences of each woman. This is a novel extremely well-suited to audio and beautifully done.
