COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fun Fun Fun! submitted by ZackTheCardshark on July 30, 2013, 3:47pm Wow! I am so glad I discovered Robyn Hitchcock.

I was listening one evening to Wits (the funniest public radio show in existence, including Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me, A Prairie Home Companion, Wiretap, and The Irrelevant Show) when I heard this really unbelievably wonderful music being played on the radio. It was Robyn Hitchcock, the week's musical guest, and I thought he was even better than Paula Poundstone, who was the week's comedy guest.

I really shouldn't have to explain Wits' format to you, because you're already a devoted listener, aren't you? ;) Anyway. I digress.

I immediately decided to search the AADL catalog for any and all Robyn Hitchcock recordings. Imagine my delight when I saw the plethora offered up to my eager ears! This disk (or disc, which is how Robyn Hitchcock presumably spells it) had the best title, and some of the best music, too.

The title track, "Ole! Tarantula," was immediately added to my "Funny Animal Songs" playlist on my iPod AND my "Favorites" playlist. The opening track, "Adventure Rocket Ship," is bizarrely brilliant and fun, as well.

I particularly liked "Belltown Ramble" -- an extraordinarily potent earworm, and just perfect for any time that your mind is wandering. "Underground Sun" particularly lets that Hitchcock brilliance shine through.

But it was "'Cause It's Love" that actually fooled someone into thinking it was a Beatles song they had never heard before. I am not kidding you.

Listen to it yourself, and tell me honestly whether you think Robyn Hitchcock could have been the fifth Beatle.

"We were ... riding in your car in San Fransisco ... /Through the weather ... and the rain .... /We were ... riding in your car in San Fransisco ... /But we're ... never gonna ride that way ... again..."
