Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse -- Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon, a mystery unfolds and together with his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

Wonderful

A wonderful, engaging, and educational adventure novel about Greek gods, goddesses, and monsters!

Lightning Thief

I didn't have many expectations before picking up this book, but even so, I was somewhat disappointed. The word I end up using over and over to describe this series is cheesy. I don't know if it's an attempt at humor or what, but all it has me doing is rolling my eyes.

Great for a road trip

This kept an 11-year old boy mesmerized throughout a 10-hour road trip. Great story - can't wait to hear the rest of the series.

Grusome

I love the percy Jackson series, This one Is My Favorite

:)

I love the book on CDs better because it makes it feel like someone is telling you the story and it feels like it's Percy talking. :)

Fun and Learning

A good book that is both fun to listen to/read but also learn from. It was a fun way to review Greek Mythology. Would be great for kids but is also interesting as an adult.

WOW, what a great series. Very formulaic, but still very good, you’ll see what I mean. It made me want to go review my old ancient empire text books.
