Ted, the explorer with a large yellow hat, is good friends with Bloomsberry. Bloomsberry runs a natural history museum. His greedy son, Bloomsberry Junior, wants to tear down his dad's museum and put a parking garage in its place, but the elder Bloomsberry is convinced that a spectacular new exhibit could save the museum from the wrecking ball. Ted heads to Africa on an expedition to find some special artifacts that will keep his friend in business. While he is in Africa, he befriends a playful monkey he calls George. While George is friendly, he has a taste for mischief and seems to always get Ted in trouble. Ted thinks he has seen the last of George when his ship heads back to America, but discovers that George managed to hide aboard the boat before it sailed. Ted and his good friend Maggie, a schoolteacher who's sweet on him, struggle to find of a way to save Bloomsberry's museum.

Good But Different from the Show submitted by jarroyo on June 20, 2013, 12:44pm This was a good movie, but if you watch the Curious George tv show it does not use any of those characters (which I was expecting it to). It also refers to the Man With the Yellow Hat by name which I'm not used to (if you are a fan of the books he is never given a name). Even with this it is still a cute movie and worth seeing if you are a fan of Curious George. He's as cute as usual.

Wonderful! submitted by Zekicmom on July 16, 2013, 6:48pm This is such a sweet movie. I always had a problem with the original book because the man with the yellow hat took George from the jungle. In this movie, he's a stowaway and that changes the whole tone. This movie is great for young kids, it's not painful for adults, and the music by Jack Johnson is excellent.

Good movie, great soundtrack submitted by Caroline Piro on July 29, 2013, 7:30pm This was a charming movie for kids and not too bad for the adults watching it with them (except maybe for some slightly clunky dialogue in places), but the soundtrack featuring Jack Johnson is the real star here--he's amazing as usual.

Cute with a Great Soundtrack submitted by cmegane on June 25, 2017, 10:18am This is a cute movie with an easy tone. The soundtrack from Jack Johnson is perfect and it is a fun one for kids and nice for adults too. Perfect parts silly and sweet.

Modern George submitted by KPNF on July 9, 2017, 5:15am I think the modern Curious George PBS show evolved from this movie (both are produced by Ron Howard). It was an enjoyable movie for kids and adults but note that The Man with the Yellow Hat is sometimes a bit of a jerk in this movie. At one point he sort of abandons George, which left my 5-year old very sad. The Man with the Yellow Hat is much more likeable in the PBS series, so be warned if your child is already acquainted/regularly watches the PBS show.
