A Pretty Fun Halloween Story submitted by Meginator on June 13, 2023, 11:43pm This is a fairly typical Berenstain Bears adventure, delivering a tidy moral message through a humorous story that finds Papa Bear learning an important lesson about respect for others’ preferences and boundaries. The story is straightforward and the illustrations offer some fun details with additional humorous elements while helping to carry the plot forward. Some of the details are a little inconsistent, such as the cubs’ alternating delight over and fear of Papa’s shenanigans, and readers never get to see how or whether Papa changed anything beyond his costume after learning his lesson. Nonetheless, this is a good Halloween choice for readers who enjoy the series and who are familiar with the Bear family’s personalities and saccharine style.
