The Cylons Won submitted by Caser on February 24, 2010, 1:37pm The Cylons finally won me over. I resisted this show for many years, writing it off as a Star Trek come lately, and that show bores the sleep out of me. But this is intense drama, sharply written, and (at times) extraordinarily acted. It hardly matters that the setting is outer space, as this is not necessarily a show solely for sci-fi fans, except that the backdrop works brilliantly to capture the isolation, the desolation, the absolute futility surrounding the characters and eliciting their actions.

I like this existential aspect to it, but that alone would not keep me watching, even as it lends the episodes some continuity. Other episodes tackle social and political issues such as cloning, DNA manipulation, human oppression, and omnipresent bureaucracy in all things human.

For those still on the fence about this show, give Season 1, Disc 1 a try. It's a 3 hour miniseries that will make or break a new fan. I'm guessing many will be the former.

This has all happened before, and it will all happen again. Battlestar Galactica won me over, and I'm sure it will win you over too. One important note! Make sure that you watch the mini-series first! It's on Disc 1 of Season 1. I tried to jump right in to season 1, not knowing about the Mini-Series. It lost me, and so I missed out on BSG for a few more years, until someone recommended the series to me again.

The first season shows the increasing desperation that the struggling band of humans has in defending itself against the more powerful Cylons. Humanity has been decimated... Now it is up to a rag-tag band of survivors to make it to Earth. Or just keep surviving.

I loved the first season. You will too!

Great series! submitted by ashflowtuff on August 17, 2011, 1:17pm This is a really great show. The writing and acting are excellent. The story is compelling and intense. The miniseries starting Season 1 is amazing, and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of quality TV.
