COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fusion Jazz submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 7:26pm This classic jazz fusion album includes some of the Pat Metheny Group’s most iconic tracks and showcases a style of jazz composition that draws on a range of influences and knits something unique together in the process. The album’s best track, and my absolute favorite from Pat Metheny’s vast repertoire, is “Last Train Home”; the song layers a sentimental, introspective melody on top of an ever-moving rhythmic background to evoke a sense of introspection and ponder the meaning of returning home, all without relying on words. The album’s other tracks have a good variety to them, often using synthesized vocal sounds to add an unusual musical texture that gives the group’s compositions a unique edge. Jazz fusion is an oft-maligned genre, but when done well it can be quite innovative, a laboratory of sound with something for everyone.
