Great submitted by Lucy S on August 1, 2014, 7:06pm Really good baseball movie.

Great! submitted by manz on July 10, 2016, 9:20pm Goodbye Mr Spalding!

A really swell baseball film. A little long, but I enjoyed the storyline.

Homer at the Bat submitted by shira.pilarski on July 18, 2020, 10:56pm One of the greatest Simpsons episodes, Homer at the Bat, is full of references to this movie, which is one of the reasons I wanted to watch it. And it was...okay. Robert Redford is charming as a flawless "put some mustard on it" type baseball player. Wilford Brimley is perfect as the disgruntled manager. Glenn Close is loveable, and the romance is one you root for. But the villains are somehow simultaneously cut-and-paste AND over-the-top.

****(spoilers)**** And it suffers from the classic sports film problem of having a character be told that he will almost certainly die if he does a thing, and then he does it anyway, and then he survives.
