This story of a technological paradise suddenly turned nightmare is a genuine shocker. For $1,000 a day, vacationers can indulge whims at the "theme park" called Westworld where the gunhands and dance-hall girls are all robots programmed to serve the guests' violent and lustful fantasies--until something goes wrong with their circuitry.
DVD; full screen; widescreen.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

WestWorld submitted by jaegerla on February 28, 2011, 10:55am Imagine that a reporter in a plaid suit walked up to you right now and asked if you'd like to go on a vacation. After replying yes, he would inform you that you have three destinations to choose from: WestWorld, RomanWorld, or MedievalWorld. It seems like the best choice would be RomanWorld, but you choose Westworld. The man in the plaid suit takes you to your vacation. Westworld turns out to be a cowboy theme park populated with lifelike robots there for you to talk to, get services from, and even fight! The amusement park town has several saloons and is surrounded by desert. The robots are armed with real guns, but don't worry, nothing will go wrong. Now enjoy your stay!

*** The plot of Westworld must have lead to Crichton writing Jurassic Park. Same idea, but dinosaurs instead of robots.

Another movie point that must have spawned another idea was Yul Brynner's determined hunting of one of the guests. Whoever wrote Terminator took that character and ran with it. ***
