COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Recommended for SciFi lovers submitted by jgowell on August 8, 2008, 8:23am This is a great show; fans of the original movie and series should enjoy the continuity from these works. That said, there isn't anything that would keep a new viewer form enjoying these shows. The characters take some time to get to know, but after the first season they are well developed. The characters are gritty and flawed like real people, but also heroic in ways that make the show enjoyable

A great show submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on June 18, 2014, 6:20pm "Stargate Atlantis" remains one of my favorite science fiction TV series. A spin-off of "Stargate SG-1" (1999-2007, starring Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and Michael Shanks), this series is closer to a sci fi Swiss Family Robinson.

Earth scientists have discovered a wormhole through the stargate to take people farther than ever before: to the Pegasus Galaxy. Because it requires enormous amounts of energy to travel such a distance, only a limited crew with limited supplies can go and they will likely never return. An international team of scientists and military personnel headed by Dr. Elizabeth Weir make camp where they exit the stargate in what appears to be a space station, but our heroes figure out is actually the lost city of Atlantis. Not knowing anything about the area, the Earth citizens unwittingly awaken a predatory upon the galaxy, a mistake that will haunt them for years.

Filmed in Canada, the series has a fairly diverse cast, including three actors of color, several strong female characters and actors playing characters from numerous Earth nations. We also have some Pegasus natives to round out the group.

I was sad that the series had only five seasons, but it told a great story during that time.
