Reggaeton Plus submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2023, 11:41pm This album holds reggaeton’s signature rhythms at its core, but also experiments with other styles (particularly salsa) to create a distinctly flavored style of music that fuses several different traditions together. Not knowing much Spanish, I can’t speak for the lyrical content, but Daddy Yankee has an excellent sense of rhythm and his raps flow naturally with and over the background textures, although he does tend to rely on a few tried and true patterns that can make some of the album a bit repetitive (at least to a non-Spanish speaker like me). However, despite not being able to engage with the lyrical content, I did enjoy this album quite a bit. It may be just a little repetitive in the rhythms it relies on, but enough of the tracks branch into their own unique hooks and approaches that it remains interesting throughout.
