Lee Plenty is an impoverished novelist hoping to make it big some day. He meets the wealthy and beautiful Havilland Savage who invites him to Washington, D.C., for a quiet New Year's Eve party at her affluent family's home. Lee becomes the focus of attention from the other woman at the party, but he and Havilland start to build a romance of their own.
