Not very good submitted by ashflowtuff on August 15, 2011, 3:51pm I was not impressed with this movie. It was just OK, and pretty weird. The original movie is so good, I don't know why they even bothered with a remake.

Superb submitted by derin on August 17, 2011, 5:15pm Superb movie

Yum Chocolate submitted by Cami K on August 26, 2011, 9:57am This movie sticks to the book better than the first one, but the children, except for Charlie, were not nearly as good as being bratty as the ones in the original.

good submitted by bookworm12345 on June 21, 2013, 12:36pm good movie. Johnny Depp is a great willy wonka in this mocie

Different submitted by crazypockets on July 15, 2013, 4:42pm I grew up with the original movie and the book, so I wasn't sure how to take this movie at first. It did a better job of staying true to the book than the first movie did. And I liked that the Oompa Loompas' songs were the original poems from Roald Dahl's book. I also liked the casting, especially Charlie and Grandpa Joe. Johnny Depp's performance is completely weird, but the more you watch it, the more you realize its eerie, subtle, hilarious genius. Watch his eyes. There is so much going on there that you might not realize at first. A perfectly weird adaptation for a perfectly weird book.

Not good submitted by hornv on June 21, 2014, 4:44pm It was not as good as Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

strange submitted by hcf on July 25, 2014, 2:11pm Odd ball stuff ~ original better

Pretty Good submitted by downing on July 25, 2015, 7:08pm Not as good as the original, but pretty close.

good submitted by karenkay on July 16, 2016, 2:50pm Johnny Depp is very good in this film

Burtonesque submitted by keebs23 on July 23, 2016, 2:23pm Fantastical imagery in a story that hews closely to the book until the end. Did Wonka need a backstory?

okay submitted by Kanchan21 on July 13, 2018, 10:08am Did not like this one compared to original movie.

WTF submitted by majean on August 17, 2018, 12:47pm What is with that goofy backstory for Wonka?? Not at all like the book. This movie really loses some things...

Good movie! submitted by Xris on August 29, 2018, 11:37pm It was good, but I still prefer Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Johnny Depp's teeth creeped me out in this one.

Weird submitted by maureenannarbor on June 15, 2019, 3:49am This was ohe weird movie.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory submitted by lstorc on July 3, 2019, 7:21pm This was a disappointing film. It is a disservice to Dahl and the original film.

Fun family movie submitted by pamelawright on August 5, 2020, 7:39pm I watched this with my kids. There was plenty to laugh at and nothing inappropriate.

Willy Wanka submitted by sara on August 16, 2020, 4:31pm Johnny Depp makes a creepy Willy Wanka. I liked this remake more than I expected to.

Hmmmm submitted by jibkidder on July 26, 2022, 3:52pm To me an absolutely baffling aesthetic, it is so strange to see where Tim Burton ended up. Was there some financial restraint that led to the amazing feel of Pee Wee's Big Adventure or Edward Scissorhands? Or has he, like Herzog, and certain other auteurs, started to huff his own fumes too much by this point in his career? Depp is horrible in this, just fundamentally un-compelling, a parody of a zany creep. Though I will admit, my kids did like it, and while I don't like the music much, the effect of all the oompa-loompa's being played by 1 actor was unsettling in a way that I think worked.

childhood favorite submitted by zaraz on August 5, 2022, 10:22pm I used to watch this movie all the time as a kid and I still love it! such a fun movie and I love Burton's take on the story.

nope submitted by kelleyc on August 15, 2022, 11:45am Way overdone pretentious Tim Burton/Johnny Depp garbage. Absolutely unnecessary. Just more of the same crap from those two.

Not the original but that's OK submitted by Elizabeth17 on August 17, 2022, 12:17am An excellent new take on an old classic. Everything you want from Burton and Depp.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory submitted by SBNB on August 18, 2022, 4:07pm The squirrels are back, but Willy Wonka is stranger than ever. Too strange. Uncomfortably strange. The other version (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) is much better.

Not as fun as the original submitted by bahr on July 6, 2023, 12:11am This movie is much darker than the original which had a hopeful and playful tone. This one just goes sideways and isn’t worth the time. I’d rather watch the older, more charming version!
