COMMUNITY REVIEWS

The Soul of the 60s submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 9:29pm This album is a mix of cover songs and originals, and each of the tracks is a definitive version in its own way (even “Respect” holds its own against Aretha Franklin’s more famous recording, as the tone is significantly different). Otis Redding’s vocal style and the musical blend of pop and R&B are the epitome of 60s soul music, with the emotion coming as much from Redding’s performances as from the lyrics themselves; in anyone else’s hands, the songs would be (and are) very different. This album is essential for anyone interested in the history of soul music and anyone who enjoys the kind of vocal performance that puts as much into the music as the instrumentalists and the songwriters; everything comes together perfectly here.
