Ramona Quimby, Age 8 submitted by camelsamba on August 12, 2011, 4:13pm In this book, Ramona is off to the 3rd grade, and having to deal with changes in the family (her dad going back to college, her mom working full time, she and Beezus at different schools). Typical of the Ramona series, you get insights into how a child views the world and the adults around her. I find these to be good reminders for me as a parent - maybe my kid is reacting a certain way because of misunderstandings like Ramona has. It also presents opportunities for discussion: "why didn't Ramona tell her mom how she really feels? You know you can always talk to me" etc. etc.

A note on the audio version: the voices that Stockard Channing uses tend to be distinct for each character so it's pretty easy to follow the dialogue. However, the voice she uses for Ramona sounds a bit mushy at times - like she is talking with food in her mouth or something. I suppose she is trying to make her sound younger, but it verges on annoying (especially when it also verges on unintelligible).
