COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Collection of self-contained stories submitted by valjean on August 10, 2018, 10:16am In a sort of Dr. Who fashion, this shows the influence of Dream and other Endless through a few specific historical periods of Earth. Technically, this is skippable, but these are the kinds of stories where Gaiman really shines, so I definitely would not miss this one.

Emperor Norton I submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 3:29pm This is how I first learned of the United States' first and only emperor, Norton I, a wonderful tale. I also love the story of Orpheus, as sad as it is.

Short Episodes submitted by hrgray on June 18, 2023, 7:41pm I thought that this volume was a little weaker than some of the other Sandman issues. It's a series of short, stand-alone stories, several of which are loosely based on historical figures. They were interesting and still worth the read, but their short length left them feeling a bit abrupt in my opinion.

Intermission Number 2 submitted by kaymbre on July 9, 2023, 7:23am Similar to the third volume of the series, this one focuses on a series of shorter self-contained stories where Dream plays a more secondary role. As with his other work, Gaiman is right at home with thought provoking, mythic, and dreamy storytelling. None of these tales feature a comic book hero in tights and a cape, battling it out against the forces of evil. Instead, for this collection, he focuses on the effects that Dream and his fellow Endless have in the lives of historical and legendary characters. It's a pleasant intermission between volumes containing longer and heavier fare.
