Just because I'm a woman Dolly Parton submitted by rlsain on July 24, 2016, 5:22pm Bottom line, the artists interpreting Dolly Parton's songs are light-weights. A few of them provide credible interpretations of her songs (for example, Joan Osborne's Do I every cross your mind, Mindy Smith's Jolene, and To Daddy by Emmy Lou Harris). Unfortunately none of these offers something that comes close to Dolly Parton's own renditions. Parton provides us with extraordinary energy that leaves covers in the dust. She's the real thing.
A Great Tribute submitted by Meginator on July 8, 2021, 6:51pm This compilation features female artists covering some of Dolly Parton’s classic songs. The selected artists lean heavily toward folk and (less so) bluegrass and country, which is a great fit for Parton’s catalogue and shows the emotional range of those genres. Hearing these songs in a different musical context highlights how exceptionally talented a songwriter Dolly Parton is while celebrating a group of artists who are no doubt influenced by her work to this day. This is a must-listen for any fans of Dolly Parton and modern folk music, and a great listen for anyone who enjoys great, timeless music.
