Since his childhood, Benjamin Franklin Gates has known that he is a decendant of a long line of people whose job it has been to guard a treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers. They hid clues to its whereabouts in the country's currency and on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now, Ben has learned of a plot to steal the Declaration, and has only one option: he had to steal it himself. Even if he pulls off this monumental task, keeping the treasure safe is still going to be incredibly hard, especially since the FBI now knows of his plans.

Wow submitted by DL on July 31, 2012, 3:25pm America's treasures become puzzles to be solved and have been hidden for years. Great action and unbelievable hidding places.

History submitted by crazypockets on July 13, 2013, 11:41am Oh, Nicholas Cage. It's hard nowadays to like anything he's in, but this was a fun movie. If you like American history, or if you're interested in the Masons or secret societies mixed with some action and some humor, you'll probably like this one.

Suspension of disbelief submitted by beeniepie on August 26, 2014, 12:49pm If you're into conspiracy theories, and are willing to suspend all disbelief, you may enjoy this big budget action movie. Nicholas Cage plays the part of Nicholas Cage, the same character in EVERY movie he's ever been in. Harvey Keitel and Sean Bean provide some solid performances.

Amazing submitted by peterflorence on July 17, 2015, 2:55pm This is my favorite movie by far.

Best/Worst movie of 2005 submitted by Josephin2.718 on August 10, 2018, 11:09pm It's one of those movies you either love or hate. My best friend loved this movie, but I can't stand it.

How Is This Good? Because It Totally Is submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 10:39pm This film is absolutely preposterous, but if you can get past that, its sheer audacity makes it a ton of fun: I mean, why not drop Nicolas Cage into a conspiracy theory tracing its lineage from Ancient Egypt to the Founding Fathers, by way of (who else) the Knights Templar and the Masons? The plot centers around a treasure hunt following a trail of vague clues buried deeply in historical riddles, with a rival team thrown in to raise the stakes and give the heroes moral superiority as they literally raid the National Archives for one of the country’s most important founding documents. It’s a heist, a treasure hunt, a race against time, and a lesson in some lesser-known corners of U.S. history, all wrapped up into a whirlwind film with surprisingly strong performances from the supporting cast. Go into this film with reasonable expectations, resolve not to nitpick its (many) little faults or take it to seriously, and you’ll have a great time.

National Treasure submitted by yufamily on July 26, 2022, 12:36pm Watched it again after many years... Loved the adventure of treasure hunting!

National Treasure submitted by avrogers1 on June 9, 2023, 4:36pm I love, love, loved this movie! It's full of Nods to American history and lore, while still giving the suspence and intrigue of an adventure film. The acting is great! The storyline is fantastic!
