parable of the sower submitted by hcf on July 28, 2014, 4:28pm buter writes an interesting story

Parable submitted by SolaireFQ on June 24, 2017, 7:10am How climate change and government transitioning to more business led may impact our lives. Semi post-apocolyptic.

Slow start, but thought provoking submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 15, 2017, 9:55am I found this to be just a little bit slow hooking my interest, though certainly interesting enough that I knew I wasn't going to put it down. I stayed with it easily and then found it to be a compelling 1993 look at what 2025 might look like if the US continued to ignore global warming, drugs, the gap between the rich and the poor, throwaway labor, and the breakdown of community (both in knowing our neighbors and at a policing level). It's also a coming-of-age novel, but done well. It could easily be written now for 35 years from here.

This could be a great thought-provoking book for individual contemplation or a book club read. Who and when do we trust? What role does religion play in our lives? What is community, and what happens when it breaks down? When and how do we choose to build it up? How does race fit into the mix?

Worth your time.
