Jessica Fletcher is in a compromising position as she awakens on a lobster boat adrift in Cabot Cove only to find that she is accompanied by corpse. Jessica finds herself in an investigation involving the town and its lobstermen. The town seeks to have a gala pageant to attract tourists to the dismay of the lobstermen who were told to curtail the sell of their harvests in order to meet the inevitable demand. The escalation of "accidents" and "mishaps" culminates in murder from the lobstermen's uproar over suspending their livelihood.
