COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A classic! submitted by GJBarnett2 on August 10, 2016, 7:10pm And since it was a "period piece" when it was first written and performed, it stands up just like it was filmed yesterday. A great cast, great voices and wonderful music. A must for any musical theater buff.

Blackface musical scene submitted by willow on August 31, 2016, 6:44am Kathryn Grayson performs a blackface scene as Magnolia, singing "Gallivanting Around," containing the usual stereotypes.

Also Ava Garner plays a mixed race woman, Julie, whose marriage to a white man contravenes anti-miscegenation laws.

An additional note about this film is that it removes the racial references to "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," and changes the lyrics from "shiftless" to "dreamer."
