COMMUNITY REVIEWS

my beloved diskworld submitted by ferdoble on August 11, 2011, 3:50pm To describe Terry Pratchett’s books is a difficult thing to do. The disc world series is in a word fantastic. Terry Pratchett, would seem to use the disk world, to take any theme, or know story and then twist it in his own very humorous way. These are not always laugh out loud funny (sometimes they are), bur rather the sort of funny that just sort of lifts your spirits a little bit.

I will say that in some cases there isn’t always a really strong story, sometimes its just his characters moving through one of those twisted themes. I like them all, you may want to start with the Most Von Lipwig story line (“Going Postal” and then “making money”) as at least the first one has a really great story line.

I love to pepper my reading queue with these books to keep all those books that take themselves seriously fresh and interesting.

I recommend reading them ALL.

OR listening to them. The two main narrators of Terry Pratchett’s books are Stephen Briggs & Nigel Planer and they take Terry Pratchett’s phenomenal writing to a whole new level.

Further adventures of teen witch Tiffany Aching submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 17, 2012, 10:58am "A Hat Full of Sky" follows "Wee Free Men" as the second of the Tiffany Aching novels, part of Sir Terry Pratchett's larger and much beloved Discworld series (and if you don't already love them, I highly recommend these books). Tiffany is a young teen who continues her magical training and attempts to keep the mischief-making Nac Mac Feegles, who are small, blue pictsies (as they call themselves, not pixies) out of too much trouble.
We meet some characters from other Discworld books, including Granny Weatherwax. Those who have read "Equal Rites" and "Wyrd Sisters" will have a better understanding of what the Discworld is in general and who the witches in particular are, and so will better appreciate the Tiffany Aching books. After this novel, we continue Tiffany's adventures in "Wintersmith."
Unlike some Young Adult fantasy novels, the Tiffany Aching books feature a strong, independent teenage woman who does not fall in love or base her life's decisions on what some man thinks is best for her.

discworld submitted by unknown on August 10, 2013, 11:04pm We purchased the CD version of this book on our cross-country journey this summer. Our daughter, aged six, picked the CD out based on the description on the back of the CD cover. Neither my wife or I had heard of the author or series before.

We were very happy to discover that this is a wonderful and delightful tale! It is one of the rare children's books that both adults and children can enjoy. There were many times when all of us were laughing at the same time. Mr. Pratchett's sense of humour is, to say the least, unique.

The tale is told independently of the first book in this series. You are told enough background information to know what is going on and at no point do you feel like you should have read the first book.

As to the plot, it is full of blue little men with red hair, witches and a nasty creature that takes over the heroine. Everything is settled in the end and the world goes on.

As a final testment to the book: our daughter demanded that we listen to the book on the return journey and neither my wife nor I complained.

PS My daughter wants you to know that she thinks the book rates a "100 percent."
