High school senior Sam lives at the beck and call of her self-obsessed step-mother Fiona and her wicked step-sisters. With her sights set on attending Princeton, Sam finds her less-than-sparkling social life wonderfully complicated when she meets her Prince Charming online. But when her cyber soul mate turns out to her high school's ultra-popular quarterback Austin, Sam makes a mad dash back to reality. Fearing rejection if her secret is revealed, Sam dodges Austin's efforts to discover the identity of his princess.

Charming Early 00s Classic submitted by Meginator on July 1, 2020, 7:20pm This is a cute romantic comedy that mixes a traditional Cinderella formula with a hint of Romeo and Juliet. Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray have good chemistry and Jennifer Coolidge portrays a delightfully nasty stepmother. The film hits all of the right notes in due course and makes up for its lack of ambition and creativity with considerable charm. It’s predictable, but that’s all part of the fun, and the film doesn’t take itself too seriously while still having its own unique emotional touchpoints. I recommend this for nostalgic millennials (The lead actors! The flip phones! The AIM chats!) and younger viewers who enjoy uncomplicated, charming teen love stories.

Chad Michael Murray and Hilary Duff could not have been better cast. Literally rewatch this every year and I’m fully an adult woman now, this movie will stick with all of us who loved it as teens and it is worth re-watching or watching for the first time Teens today would be very entertained by the flip phone texting, I’m sure ;)
